'If you grew up in the 80s, you'll love it'
Set in the 1980s, Mel, an anxious teen, is dumped for the summer holidays with her aunt and uncle in rural Suffolk.
Having overheard devastating news about her father, Mel runs blindly away only to meet Tina, a tough local girl. Together the unlikely pair steal a car and drive away to escape their mutual misery.
Squatting in a dilapidated caravan, they befriend Eddie, who is reluctantly dragged into the seedy world of drug smuggling by his abusive father and dangerous brother, Vincent. But as Mel’s aunt and uncle rally the town to search for the girls, things start to unravel for Eddie, Mel and Tina. It’s a race against time to escape the police and pay off a notorious criminal family.
Can the drunken, cantankerous artist, Mrs Wilbraham, help? Can Mel’s aunt find the girls before it’s too late? And will Tina be forced to return to the dark past she has just escaped?
This fast-paced story is full of humour and nostalgia for the 1980s. A great read for those who remember the decade with particular reference to life on the coast of East Anglia.
